Trailer: Small Furniture + Sex and also the City = Lena Dunham's Women, Kinda
It's awfully simplistic to express so however with Lena Dunham's forthcoming Cinemax dramedy series Women, which marks the most recent milestone in her own quickly climbing career, the evaluations draw themselves -- evaluations to Dunham's own prior work and also to all that's come before in trying to mine the current single female experience for experience and laughs in film and tv. But whether you are an admirer or perhaps a Dunham skeptic, it's worth considering the show's first trailer to discover for yourself what to anticipate in the developing filmmaker, particularly with folks like Judd Apatow shepherding her publish-Small Furniture. Dunham's career-beginning indie pic Small Furniture (her sophomore feature) gained equal shares of praise and critique upon release this year, however it unquestionably put her make of wry, neurotic comedy around the radar and shown Dunham's readiness to reveal herself, hpv warts and all sorts of, like a author and artist. Women, also occur NY and worried about youthful women around the edge of determining their lives, greatly grows around the Dunham brand but shows reasonable maturity Dunham stars while watching camera additionally to writing and pointing, and she's became a member of by three strong supporting stars (Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet) who flesh the series' circle of twentysomething buddies. The commonalities to Sex and also the City are available, but they are also deliberate figures fully acknowledge that they are of the generation weaned on SATC's fantasy, one of the many pop references they cite as somewhat (shateringly) self-aware NY transplants. Honestly, I had been offered after previewing the very first three episodes, especially given where Women falls within the huge selection of female-slanted shows around the air recently it debuts on Cinemax this April and bridges the space between your current sounding girl-oriented network fare and also the more daring stuff available on cable nowadays, but additionally captures a variety of interests and talent so innately of the generation. For instance: A clip below teases looks by Chris Eigeman (Metropolitan) and Peter Scolari (Bosom Pals)! In addition, an approaching episode includes a particularly juicy turn by Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone that I have been considering frequently since. This really is TV (HBO's scheduled a ten-episode season to operate) but more essential than a format is the concept that Dunham's developing her voice like a storyteller consistent with what we have seen formerly. She's apparently received a great deal of rope to help keep doing her factor (Apatow's participation like a producer likely has something related to that) and it ought to be interesting to look at as she keeps one feet in television and something in film. Women debuts at SXSW the following month and premieres April 15th on Cinemax.
